University Chronicles #3

Hey guys!! So once again, another outfit post of what I wore to school. I really hope that these posts have been helping you decide what to wear to school! Anyway, to compensate for the suspensions last week, DLSU decided to have weekend classes (booo) so today was yet another day in university.

Today I wore a glittered gray blouse, a textured pink pencil skirt, brown boots, and a brown sling bag. (I brought a small bag since I only had 1 class today)

The heat today was unbelievable so I had to wear a skirt and the top I wore was of very light material. This look has a lot going on in terms of texture, but I think it works.

So is this outfit a yay or nay?

University Chronicles #2

Hey guys! I would like to apologize for the terrible lighting of the pictures because I lost daylight... I got home later than usual, but I didn't want to miss out on a chance to post an outfit especially for these kind of posts. As I've said, I'll be using an iPhone for this (selfies!).

Today I wore a very trippy top! When I saw this top, I just had to get my hands on it. I've been obsessing over patterns! I like how it makes an outfit standout. NOTE: it can really make or break an outfit. Finding the right pattern to fit your clothing is essential because sometimes, it may look a tad bit tacky. Going bacl to my top, I love the how the pink really brightens the whole outfit and I especially like the pattern. I paired it with a gold chain, studded sandals, and of course my satchel. I think every student should have a satchel! It's very classy and it definitely fits the university lifestyle.

So what do you think guys?

outfit details: top- bazaar, pants- Zara, Satchel- Dorothy Perkins, Sandals- Payless, and gold chain- from my mom.

Street Style: Miley Cyrus

I've currently been obsessing over Miley Cyrus' street style. Her style has really evolved throughout the years from her glimmering dresses from Hannah Montana to Boho chic and currently sexy and edgy. Her edginess is what really caught my eye. Her style is really reminiscent of the 90's, when grunge and punk ruled the scene with plaid shirts and worn-out shirts. Her style is very Nirvana and Sonic Youth (bands I am totally in love with). I personally love rock music and how the genre affects fashion.

I noticed that Miley is really into neutrals, gracing a lot of black and white. She also seems to like pairing her outfits with gold accessories A trend I noticed that she liked was layering necklaces of different lengths.

Need I mention her love for stomach-bearing tops?  Her daring looks really seem to work for her and who can blame her for wanting to flaunt what she worked hard for? (I would if I had her perfect abs). That being said, Miley is definitely one of my style inspirations.  So here are a few of my fave looks:

Pictures are not mine and I have no intention of claiming any.

Reading is knowledge

People who work in the fashion industry are often thought of as intellectually inferior to people with "real jobs". I don't understand formality that society wants us to follow. Be a doctor, be a lawyer, be an engineer, but don't be part of the fashion industry because you won't make any money there. Yes, it is hard to break into this most coveted industry, but wouldn't being victorious be even more fulfilling? Not to mention the fact that fashion designers do dress everyone. (TAKE THAT). We're living in the 21st century, I think people need to wake up to the fact that it's okay not to want to be a doctor or a lawyer or an engineer. Those kind of jobs don't merit instant wealth.

These books have helped me to understand my beliefs more. Reading these books, I've come to realize and feel the passion and love that were put into writing them. Maybe this post is a little too melodramatic given that it's about books, but I want to break the stereotype that the fashion industry is full of empty-headed bimbos. Fashion is a science just as much as it is an art. It involves research and experiments. It also involves years of trial and error. Some people really fail to see this. The fashion world is full of creative and intelligent individuals. We just happen to dress better.

Without further ado, here are some of the books that really helped me understand a life in the world of fashion and a few books about finding ones personal style. Hope you guys like it!

This book is about different styles ranging from classy to edgy and how to achieve these distinct styles.

Don't know what to wear to a cocktail party or to a corporate event? Well fret no more, this book dictates the do's and dont's in dressing up for certain occasions.

Before you guy judge me as to why I think this is a fashion book (other than the fact that it does say "Fashion Doll" allow me to explain myself. Being a Barbie lover I've come to appreciate fashion because of Barbie. Playing dress up with a doll is still fashion! What's great about this book is that it has a timeline of Barbie's evolution throughout the years. Expect to see Material Girl and Spice Gorl Barbie because you'll really see how Barbie's style evolved.

This book is really great for beginners trying to understand how to apply makeup on different races. The techniques and tips are very helpful and easy to understand.  This was definitely a good read.

Kevyn Aucoin is a genius. I really love this book because it shows what inspired the author and how he connects with his clients. It also shows a variety of faces and ideas and you are bound to find one that suits you perfectly.

This book is good for beginners because it doesn't go straight to the designing and sewing. It teaches the reader to find inspiration in just about anything and to really connect with the world. Inspiration and clarity is really important in putting a collection together.

I actually haven't finished reading this book yet, but I'm liking it so far. Tim Gunn offers great tips and shares what he believes people should possess to succeed in this life. It also has inside scoop on some of fashion's biggest stars. So I'll probably make another review once I've finished it.

So what do you think guys? Let me know and leave a comment!

08.25.13

Happy Sunday everyone!

I opted for an simple yet edgy look today, but I kept the edginess to a minimum since I had to go to church. Today was a very chill day (minus the studying lol) so forgive the simplicity. Although, I believe that less is more thus this look. Too much elements would have been overkill.
Also, my eye makeup was very simple.

This is one of my favorite bags! My grandmother got this from Rome and I absolutely love it.

So what do you think guys?

Outfit details: top- bazaar (I cut the sleeves though), skirt- Topshop, shoes- H&M, watch- Phillip Stein, Bracelets- from Cambodia, necklace- accessorize, Bag- from Rome, and sun glasses- Zara

University Chronicles #1

After a week worth of suspensions I decided to have a study group with a few friends to compensate for the cancellation of classes. Obviously, there are no classes today, hence the shorts, so I opted for a comfortable yet still fashionable look.

I cannot get enough of cardigans. I love them! Especially the ones from Zara. This however is from Mango. It's very light which is great if you live in a country with a tropical climate. Also, I like how different colored cardigans really help bring an outfit together.

The top I'm wearing is a white blouse with a faux necklace and I paired it with high-waisted shorts, a brown satchel, and brown studded sandals.

It's a simply outfit, but the details and colors really help in making it stand out.
So what do you think guys?

University Chronicles

As a student in university, it gets harder to become stylish and comfortable everyday especially without having to be an outfit repeater. Personally, I don't believe in using an outfit only once because it's just not practical especially if your means cannot afford to do so. So I decided to post my #ootd for school to give you guys ideas as to how you can mix up your outfits for school. I'll be using an iPhone for these kind of posts since it would be a hassle to have a photoshoot everyday. I hope this helps!!

My makeup brushes!!

Sorry for not being able to make new posts! Been very busy lately, but nonetheless here's a new post!! (Finally)

I've really been getting into applying makeup and I decided to invest in some good quality brushes.

Here are my Bobbi Brown makeup brushes. Bobbi Brown, being a very reputable brand, is quite expensive. I really wanted these brushes because I've read good reviews about them and I decided to invest in these glorious brushes (my wallet hurt for weeks!!)

I really only have a problem with 1 brush and that's the face blender (the ivory colored brush). Actually, it applies really well, but it sheds a little. Other than that, it's great for applying blush, bronzer, or a face powder. I use it to blend all of the elements on my face to give it a more natural look. Definitely worth investing on these brushes!

These are my Stoodio Beauty brushes. Stoodio Beauty is actually not a very well-known brand, but I got these brushes for a very affordable price and I'm really happy with how they apply!!

My favorite would have to be the blush brush because it's fluffy and really blends the blush well. The foundation brush is soft, but stiff for proper blending. As for the eye shadow brush, it's not good nor is it bad. It's very stiff and it is really only good for dabbing on eye shadow.

These are my Lilique travel size brushes. I use these when I go on short trips and they're great! Although I don't really use the smudge brush because I never really have a reason to but the powder brush is great, it's very soft and evenly applies the powder/foundation. The blush brush is great too, I use it to contour my nose and the angled brush is used for my brows.

This is my Suesh travel powder brush. I LOVE this brush because it's soft and applies nicely. I use this on pressed powders for retouching. It also comes with a pouch (how cute is that?!)

So I hope my reviews helped you guys in choosing the right brushes! If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them on the comment box!

Thanks guys!! MWAH!
